The 2010's are characterized by generalized shot berries (millerandage) in the bunches. The flowering was compromised by cold and humid weather which led to an incomplete pollination, thus producing very small berries.
The millerandage is very favourable to the quality of red wine. In reducing the volume of the harvest, it resulted in a very good maturity in 2010 despite cool temperatures in August and September.
In addition, it aerated the grapes and thus reduced their susceptibility to botrytis. This is the reason for the good condition of the harvest despite a humid month of August.
In short, in reducing the yield, the millerandage gave the wine richness and colour.
Low temperatures in September were advantageous in preserving the acidity and the freshness of the aromas. The tannins are silky, reflecting their excellent maturity. The wines impress with their richness, length on the palate and their smoothness.
It is undeniably a great year for laying down which brings to mind the 1993 vintage.
