2011 began with an exceptionally hot and sunny spring and early summer which accelerated growth on the vine and led to very early flowering around the 20th May. Berries in the early stage of veraison were first seen on 10th July.
From 7th to 20th August we experienced a sudden change in climactic conditions with abundant rains and cooling temperatures. The end of August and the entire month of September were once more dry and sunny.
The three weeks advance gained in June was largely maintained up to harvest time which explains the earlier harvest.. At the domaine it began on the Cote and was completed on 20th September in the Hautes Cotes (upper slopes).
The late summer rains resulted in the development of botrytis, which, fortunately, was stopped in its tracks by the return of the North wind.
A meticulous double selection by the harvesters and then the sorters allowed us to use only very ripe and healthy grapes in the tanks.
The tasting that was carried out immediately upon the completion of the malolactic fermentation was a happy surprise for the winemakers. The colours were strong and bright with very pure aromas and there is a good balance of acids with smooth tannins.
These wines whilst very pleasant drunk young can also be laid down for a few years.
